Tiverton, RI The town’s new 187,000 s/f family and sports center, next to Rte. 24 in the Tiverton Industrial Park, is nearing completion. The facility, known as Longplex Family Fitness & Sports Center, is 80% complete with all site work done and steel fully erected.
“We are just working on the interior now,” said Jim Long of Middletown, owner of the sports complex. “We are currently sealing the building with windows and doors.”
The center will provide an indoor and outdoor space for sporting and family activities.
DiPrete Engineering completed the site design, land surveying, landscape architecture, and construction documents. The team also obtained approvals from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Town of Tiverton.
“We had already worked closely with the Town of Tiverton back in 2011 to permit and design the same industrial park that Longplex is located in,” said Chris Duhamel, vice president at DiPrete Engineering. “Having that experience with the town under our belts, we were better able to align its goals with Jim’s vision.”
Currently, DiPrete is working on construction administration services for onsite value engineering and offsite sewer construction. As-built survey will be completed for the site.
When complete, the center will include two turf fields, volleyball and basketball courts, a karate center, an outdoor ice rink and a restaurant. There will also be private rooms for birthday parties or conferences. The second floor will offer gym space, an indoor running track, a bouncy house and an arcade courtesy of Ryan Family Amusements.
“We have already rented 100% of our space to recreation groups,” said Jim. “Our goal is to have our grand opening this summer.”
When an opening date is announced, Longplex will begin accepting names for adult leagues in volleyball, roller hockey, deck hockey, basketball and soccer. There will also be sports classes and workout classes offered.
