Diversity Construction Group awarded project at the Beardsley Zoo

Bridgeport, CT Diversity Construction Group has been awarded a design-build project for the renovation and construction of the Andean bear habitat at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. Diversity Construction Group will be teaming with Zoo Design, Inc., a Seattle- based design company specializing in zoos, conservation and animal welfare organizations, and Diversified Technology Consultants, Inc. (DTC), an engineering and landscape architecture firm.

The Beardsley Zoo is proposing to construct an Andean bear exhibit which it will call the “Spirit of the Cloud Forest” to allow the Andean bears to reside in a natural setting, while being part of the AZA-accredited Zoo’s Species Survival Plan (SSP) for endangered species. The project will consist of a bear holding area, a viewing building, an outdoor viewing platform and walkways and landscaping which will include two on-exhibit exterior habitats and one fully enclosed habitat.

“We feel very honored to have been awarded this project,” said James A. Keaney, President of Diversity Construction Group. “We have assembled a high-quality team with Zoo Design Inc. and DTC which will result in an efficient construction process and a quality finished product. We feel particularly pleased in that this project will benefit Bridgeport and its surrounding communities and enhance the overall Beardsley Zoo experience.”
