Eastern Bank names Henry as general counsel and secretary

Boston, MA Eastern Bank, a full-service commercial bank headquartered in Boston, has named Kathleen Henry as general counsel and secretary. Henry, who lives in West Roxbury with her husband and three children, brings more than 15 years of legal experience and will manage the various legal affairs of the bank, including corporate governance, in-house legal advice, assessment of risk, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Henry arrived from Plymouth Rock Assurance, where she worked for four years serving as its deputy general counsel and general counsel. Prior to that, Henry spent 11 years at the law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart, becoming a partner in 2008.

Henry replaces Terence McGinnis, Eastern’s longtime general counsel who served the bank for over 12 years.

McGinnis recently retired and was subsequently appointed to be Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks.

Henry earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Boston University and her juris doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law. She serves on the board of directors for the Political Asylum Immigration Representation Project (PAIR) and on the board of tTrustees for the Insurance Library Association of Boston. She is a past member of the board of directors for the Lamp for Haiti Foundation.

In 2008, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, in partnership with the Women’s Bar Association, named Henry among their first “Woman of Justice” award recipients. A dedicated runner, Henry finished her 10th Boston Marathon in 2016.
