Eckman completes apartment renovations

November 04, 2010 - Northern New England

Jewett Street - Manchester, NH

Eckman Construction completed upgrades to 58 apartments in nine buildings for the Manchester Housing & Redevelopment Authority. The buildings renovated were at six different locations in Manchester. Improvements included exterior siding, windows and doors, and electrical upgrades.
Most units remained occupied during construction, and the work was carefully coordinated to minimize disruptions for the tenants. Three empty units were converted to be handicapped accessible. One of those, on Jewett St., is now home to James Zogopoulos. He uses a wheelchair, and had previously lived in a non-accessible apartment elsewhere in the city.
"The transition into a handicap accessible apartment has made a big difference in my everyday life and it feels as if you designed this place just for me," said Zogopoulos. "All of the craftsmanship is impeccable and I look forward to living here for years to come." Just a few weeks after moving in, the walls in Zogopoulos's new apartment were decorated with an assortment of family photos. The significance of his newly renovated apartment was evident when Zogopoulos noted that he hadn't hung pictures in his previous apartment even after living there for eight years.
The architect was the Amoskeag Architectural Group, LLC.
