New Haven, CT Marisa Engel and Robert Fitzgerald have joined the law firm of Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C., as associates.

Attorney Engel represents clients in the areas of commercial finance and banking as well as real estate law.  Attorney Fitzgerald practices in the areas of insurance defense, construction law and design professionals liability; municipal and land use litigation; and professional malpractice and insurance coverage litigation.

“As the firm grows, we value the talents of attorneys like Marisa and Robert, who each bring individual skillsets and talents,” said Douglas Skalka, managing partner for the firm. “In addition, they both share a passion for assisting others and we appreciate the quality of their work on behalf of our clients. We’re very pleased to have them working with our team.”

Engel said, “I receive the most professional satisfaction as I help people successfully navigate unfamiliar and often complex legal processes. Also, my position with Neubert, Pepe, & Monteith allows me to collaborate with experts in my practice areas. The possibilities for career development and a new client base to support are attractive qualities for an attorney who wants to provide answers when clients aren’t even sure what questions they should ask.”

She attended Suffolk University, where she majored in History and Literature, before attending Quinnipiac University School of Law. After graduation, she worked at Milford Law where she gained experience with foreclosures and consumer default litigation, wills and estate planning, probate, and residential real estate. She most recently was division manager for the New England operations group with Action Title Research, working on both residential and commercial title search review.

Attorney Fitzgerald was the assistant corporation counsel for the Town of East Hartford, before he joined Neubert, Pepe, & Monteith. He represented the town in tort, contract, municipal, zoning, and administrative law matters including complex claims and appearing on behalf of the municipality in state court and administrative agencies.

“I like to solve problems by bringing positive resolution to complex claims,” he said. “Negotiating is a skill that I enjoy honing and practicing.”

Fitzgerald earned his bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University, and his J.D. from the Quinnipiac University School of Law. While attending law school, Robert received the Marci Karbane Moot Court Award and was recognized for distinguished academic achievement in negotiation and excellence in clinical work.

Outside of work, Engel is an active part of the school community and Fitzgerald is an advocate on behalf of young adults. He has spent more than a decade working with the Jordan Porco Foundation, which aims to prevent suicide and promote mental health.
