Fowler, Bellinger, Contompasis, Cubia and Stuart join YMCA Board

The YMCA of Greater Boston welcomes five experienced and respected leaders to its General Board including John Fowler, executive managing director, Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP (HFF); Patricia Bellinger, the former director of British Petroleum Leadership Academy; Michael Contompasis, director, Intergovernmental Relations, Office of Mayor Menino; Carlos Cubia, vice president of sales, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Nancy Stuart, COO, Concert Pharmaceuticals, Inc.. "We are at an exciting time in our history with the upcoming launch of our capital campaign to support the redevelopment of our Hyde Park and West Roxbury branches and the development of a new facility on the Rose Kennedy Greenway," said John Ferrell, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Boston. The YMCA of Greater Boston's General Board of Directors enables the Y to grow and effectively speak to the current issues and needs of Boston and its surrounding communities. Fowler, an executive managing director, HFF, is one of nine members of the firm's operating committee. He is responsible for the overall direction of HFF's 18 offices nationwide with specific responsibility of overseeing the Boston, Chicago and N.Y. operations. In addition, he works on commercial financing, equity and sales transactions. Fowler has completed close to 600 real estate transactions valued at over $15 billion over the last twenty years, for all property types. He spent four years in the Real Estate Department of John Hancock Mutual Life Ins. Co. and in 1974, formed Fowler, Goedecke & Co., a predecessor to Fowler Goedecker Ellis & O'Connor, Inc., which was merged into HFF in 1998. Bellinger was the director of the British Petroleum Leadership Academy and group VP until June of 2007. Prior to that appointment she was group VP , Executive Development, Diversity & Inclusion. She oversaw the efforts in creating plans, policies and tools to support the enactment of an inclusive meritocracy throughout BP. She has spoken around the world on the issue of global diversity. A graduate of Harvard, Bellinger is an executive director of Sodexho Alliance SA headquartered in Paris. Contompasis is director, Intergovernmental Relations, Office of Mayor Menino. Contompasis served as teacher, assistant headmaster and headmaster of Boston Latin School for 33 years, before his appointment as COO of the Boston Schools in 1997. From June through Oct. 2006, he was interim superintendent, and then appointed superintendent of schools in October 2006, until June 2007. In 1997 he was presented the distinguished Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. Cubia, is the VP of sales at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mass. where he is primarily responsible for business development and retention of existing business in the Middle Market segment of the corporation. He oversees a team of over 40 senior sales professionals and directors that are responsible for annual revenues in excess of two billion dollars, an annual operating budget of over $4 million. Cubia is an 18-year veteran in the insurance and financial services industry and is a graduate of Michigan State. He lives in Newton with his wife and three children. Stuart is the COO of Concert Pharmaceuticals where she has overall responsibility for tactical, operational and development activities. She has 20 years of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry experience and held senior business and drug development positions in biotechnology and clinical development companies including, RRD International, Amgen Inc., Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Genzyme Corp. She holds a B.S. from the Univ. of Michigan, and an MBA from the Simmons College. Her three children have all been Y members and Y summer campers. "I am very fortunate to work with a number of talented individuals on our board," said Stacey Lucchino, chairman of the YMCA of Greater Boston board of directors.
