Boston, MA Bob Greene, president of G. Greene Construction was recently selected as CEO of the Year by Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA). Greene was chosen based on his achievements in company growth, professionalism & customer service, community involvement, advancement of the snow & ice management industry and ethical business practices.

“Snow management has become an integral part of our business. This is not just a winter business; it is year round” said Greene. “We are strategic in how and where we grow. We don’t want our long-time construction clients to have to call anyone else…that’s our relationship. Throughout the year we collaborate with our clients to ensure smooth operations when it is time to mobilize.” Greene requires what he calls “black and clear” standard for his clients. This means the job is not finished until sidewalks, parking lots and access ways are cleared down to the pavement.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Greene has continued to maintain a devoted relationship with the Longwood Medical Community in Boston. This community is made up of the most prestigious institutions in the world: Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Harvard Medical School. These clients and others have counted on Greene and his team through the years to ensure their facilities and the entire Longwood Community remain safe and operational during extreme winter conditions.

Wendy Gettleman, vice president facilities management and real estate, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute said, “Please accept my sincere thanks for the amazing job of snow removal that your team expertly performed during and after Juno.  Other than the uniform snow banks bordering our sidewalks, you would never know that a flake fell (much less, more than 2 feet of them)!”

Greene’s connection with his team has been a crucial part of the success of the snow operation. It’s not unusual to see Greene out in a storm checking on his crews at 3:00 a.m., delivering food, or plowing the office parking lot himself.

It’s this type of dedication and support that has created such a committed and loyal team who take pride in what they do. Most have been with Greene for more than 15 years.

After plowing and de-icing streets, sidewalks, parking lots and garage roofs, the unsightly snow piles need to be removed.  One of the biggest advancements for G. Greene has been utilizing massive PD-135 Snow Melters.

G. Greene is the only contactor in the Northeast who own and operate these snow Melters. They are crucial during large storms for instant snow disposal. This winter they moved 8,544 truckloads and melted 4,200,984 cubic feet of snow.

Despite the record breaking snow fall this past winter; his team was able to stay ahead of the storms due to proper planning and preparation. In addition to the Longwood Medical Community they were contacted by other clients in and around Boston who needed assistance, including the Boston School System, TJX Companies and Home Depot whose loss of commercial parking spaces was a problem.

Much has changed since Gabe Greene began the business as a one man operation in 1966. But one thing that hasn’t changed is how Bob conducts business. Bob’s philosophy of hard work and high standard of excellence has helped him establish his loyal clients and generate a definitive reputation for integrity and commitment. With this philosophy firmly in place, 2016 celebrates 50 years of success and perseverance, serving as the model for the next 50!
