December 01, 2009 - Connecticut
City and state officials gathered recently at the Reed St. Railroad Underpass for a ribbon cutting ceremony, which also included a groundbreaking for the West Ave. Infrastructure Project. The project demonstrates Norwalk's commitment to long-term development and confirms the strong partnership between Norwalk, the state of Connecticut and private business to a shared commitment to investment in responsible growth. Together, these infrastructure projects set the stage for the city's planned development integrating Norwalk's urban center from South Norwalk to Wall St. Speakers included mayor Richard Moccia; commissioner Joan McDonald of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development; Norwalk Redevelopment Agency vice chairman Emil Albanese; and executive director Timothy Sheehan.
The Reed St. Railroad Underpass, which began construction 20 months ago, is an integral part of the infrastructure for Norwalk's Reed Putnam Urban Renewal Project. The underpass links the east and west sides of the project connecting new development planned within the 95/7 project with South Norwalk, Heritage Park, the Norwalk riverfront and The Maritime Aquarium while providing traffic relief for West Ave.
