IREM Boston Chapter dedicates Kimberly Parker Garden in honor of late board member

Kimberly Parker

Boston, MA The IREM Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4 has dedicated a 20-bed garden at the West Boston Hub (WBH) in tribute to the late Kimberly Parker, a respected board member and chair of the IREM Boston DEI Committee.

Members of the IREM DEI Committee participated in a recent “Love Your Block” event at the WBH, a beautification initiative by the city of Boston, led by the Office of Civic Organizing. The program encourages residents and community groups to come together and take care of their neighborhoods.

The event held special meaning for IREM members who honored the memory of Kimberly Parker with the dedication of a garden in her name. Parker’s daughter-in-law and grandchildren attended the event, adding deeper significance to the celebration of her lasting impact on the community.

“This event was close to our hearts,” said Yoany Vargas, 2026 president of IREM Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4. “Kim’s passion for community, her kindness, and service continues to inspire us all. We will carry Kim’s legacy forth with future initiatives; together, we can continue building stronger, cleaner, and more connected communities.”

A long-time IREM member whose contributions were transformative, particularly in the area of DEI. Parker initiated foundational programs as chair of the Boston chapter’s DEI Committee, shaped national DEI strategy as chair of IREM’s National Diversity Advisory Board, and established the first chapter-level DEI award, creating a model for broader adoption.
