"IREM Ethics Awareness Month" observed throughout September

September 18, 2014 - Connecticut
IREM Connecticut Chapter #15 of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) will join 92 other IREM chapters across the U.S. and internationally in September to mark the annual observance of "IREM Ethics Awareness Month." The observance will spotlight IREM's historical commitment to professional ethics, a cornerstone of the organization since its founding in 1933. "It also will emphasize that IREM members don't just talk the talk when it comes to ethics, they also walk the walk," said local chapter president Jason Falcetta, CPM. "Indeed," said Falcetta, "all IREM Members must pledge to adhere to the rigorously enforced IREM Code of Professional Ethics as a condition of membership, with violations subject to serious disciplinary action, including expulsion."
IREM-CT has scheduled their next chapter meeting on September 24, to be held at the Tradition's Gold Club in Wallingford, where a brief review of the Ethics Code and its importance as well as some work out activities for attendees to partake in. This meeting will be a great refresher for those that have already taken the IREM Ethics Pledge, but equally important to others those are interested in one of principles behind IREM and their members.
Other Initiatives planned Nationally for "Ethics Awareness Month" include an ethics-themed webinar, member-produced videos, an ethics-focused social media campaign, in part, from specially prepared materials developed by members of IREM's Ethics Committee. As well, several chapters will host an all-day IREM ethics course titled "Ethics for the Real Estate Manager" (ETH800). The course addresses strategies and case studies focused on avoiding and resolving ethical dilemmas. It culminates in an exam to earn credit toward any one of three IREM credentials: certified property manager (CPM), accredited residential manager (ARM), and accredited commercial manager (ACoM).
