J. Calnan & Associates receives top honors at the IIDA Awards ceremony

The International Interior Design Association named J. Calnan & Associates, Inc., Sasaki Architects and the rest of the Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions (Color Kinetics) project team "Best in Show" at their recent awards ceremony held at the ICA Museum. The team also walked away with an award in the 20,000s/f - 80,000s/f office category. The award-winning 50,000 s/f facility incorporates many features designed to showcase both existing and futuristic applications of LED lighting. The visually striking showroom is entirely lit by LED sources and designed to mimic various market applications. The conference rooms and common spaces incorporate both color and white LED lighting systems. Dramatic effects include Dynamic "portal" passageways in the space that are lined by 24,350 individually controlled LED nodes. The workstation areas have colorful LED lighting throughout and the exterior has LED accents with a color-changing sign that can be seen from Rte. 128. The project also features a workshop, optics lab and machine shop for product design and testing. There is also a commemorative wall of history displaying LED product innovations through the years and prominent, projected images of the company's many notable lighting installations. In addition to these unique touches, the entire space was designed to meet high standards of environmental design. This includes the use of energy-efficient LED lighting wherever possible and no incandescent bulbs were used in this project. It's no wonder this unique project is getting so much attention! In addition to these recent awards, The CBS Morning Show featured LED lighting technologies and highlighted this technology leader.
