According to J.M. Coull has completed a medical office facility for Acton Medical Associates, PC.
Formerly housed in a converted residential structure, the old building was demolished and a new medical facility has been erected on the site. Previously, Acton Medical was limited by space in the number of medical practitioners at this facility. With the completion of the new facility, they have been able to double the adult and pediatric medical services available to the local community.
"This new facility greatly improves the outreach Acton Medical can make to the community. By increasing and improving our space we are able to accommodate twice as much care as we were able to previously offer," said Joseph Berman, chief operating officer for Acton Medical Associates, PC. "We now have better access for our disabled patients, more privacy for everyone and improved care overall. We couldn't be happier with the construction and design team for helping us turn what was a difficult site into an important community asset."
J.M. Coull served as the design build construction manager on this project, and performed the full array of pre-construction activities including permitting. As the town line bisects the property, permitting had to happen in both Westford and Littleton. Because the project involved the installation an underground sewage disposal system and, due to its proximity to the groundwater table, the grade of the entire site also had to be raised by approximately three feet.
"This is a wonderful day, not only for Acton Medical but also for the town of Littleton and the community served by Acton Medical," said Joseph Knox, chairman of the Littleton board of selectmen. "They have been around for 30 years and the advances they are making are tremendous. We are fortunate to see this as part of the strong sustainable growth we are experiencing in Littleton, and it fits in with our plan perfectly. It can only benefit Littleton and the surrounding community."
Acton Medical began in the 1950s and focused on the town of Acton. As the need in surrounding areas grew, the private practice expanded its to reach to more patients. Increasing the physical size of the office space enables Acton Medical to maintain its mission to the community
"The importance of this project can't be understated and we're proud to have completed our second project with Acton Medical Associates, continuing our expansion into the medical field," said Andrew Coull, president of J.M. Coull. "It's a great feeling of accomplishment to work on a project that successfully overcomes challenges while simultaneously benefitting families within the surrounding community."
In addition to J.M. Coull, the project team consists of Maugel Architects of Harvard, Mass., Places Site Consultants of Littleton, Mass. and The Dempsey Group, Structural Engineers, Foxboro, Mass., Madaio Glass, JJ O'Brien & Sons, Franny's Landscape Contractors, Commercial Drywall, and Northstar Construction Services.
