J. M. Coull presents first annual Daniel A. Mahoney Scholarship

J.M. Coull has presented Fitchburg State College junior, Sean Cruise of Lakeville, Mass. with the inaugural Daniel A. Mahoney Scholarship. The award was presented to Cruise by J.M. Coull president Andrew Coull, and project manager Marc Moschella, an alumnus himself of Fitchburg State. Named for a long-time employee of J.M. Coull who exemplified professionalism in construction management, the Daniel Mahoney Scholarship will be given each year for five years to a qualified industrial technology/construction technology junior-year student. "Dan is one of those amazing people who instantly befriends everyone he meets. He is also a brilliant mechanical and electrical engineer who adds a depth of knowledge, business prowess, and customer service to every project in which he is involved, even now as he transitions into retirement," said Coull. "We wanted Dan's legacy of life-long learning and mentoring to be showcased and felt the best way to do that was by offering this scholarship in his name to a deserving junior at Fitchburg State College." Candidates were nominated by Industrial Technology Dept. faculty at Fitchburg State, who looked at criteria including academic achievement, membership in one of the college's professional construction clubs, and an essay reflecting on construction management as a career choice. The final selection was made by J. M. Coull's management team. Cruise rose to the top of the nominations for his essay in which he expressed a longstanding passion for construction. "Sean's outstanding academics and professional skills exemplify the caliber of students in our program," said James Andrews, associate professor of industrial technology. "This scholarship further solidifies our relationship with J.M. Coull and helps us in our mission of supporting construction technology professionals at Fitchburg State. Scholarships like this help our students focus on academic success with fewer financial worries." J.M. Coull emphasizes the importance of continued learning through company training programs, incentives and goal setting exercises.
