JLL completes $30 million renovation of 62,930 s/f Boston YMCA

JLL's Project and Development Services (PDS) group has completed the $30 million renovation of the Huntington Ave. YMCA. The 62,930 s/f, 24-month project included the demolition of an outdated pool and squash courts, which were replaced with a new 23,000 s/f addition containing a gymnasium, aquatics center and squash courts. The project also involved the complete renovation of the remaining YMCA including executive and administrative space, aerobics and fitness center, classrooms and an after school program facility. The project was essentially "landlocked" due to the construction of a 17-story dormitory at the rear of the site, requiring intensive coordination and schedule management. The YMCA remained open to the public and the YMCA's membership grew during the life of the project. The team also accomplished preserving the YMCA's 1912 construction, which is listed on the National and State Register of Historic Places, while ensuring usability for a 21st Century population. The JLL team consisted of managing director Dermot Roe, senior vice president Michael Connelly and associate project manager Elizabeth Bruce.
