Maynard, MA JM Coull has been awarded its fifth consecutive Diamond Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a national construction trade association with over 19,000 member firms. Diamond is the highest level of safety that can be attained by contractors through ABC, and JMC was the first contractor in New England to receive this prestigious honor. The company has received 14 combined diamond, platinum, and gold STEP awards in previous years. To qualify for the award, the company had to meet stringent safety criteria established by ABC, such as maintaining a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) 50% below the industry average and maintaining an excellent Experience Modification Rate (EMR). With the addition of the 2015 Diamond STEP Award, the company has 20 awards recognizing its safety program. The award was presented on May 14 by ABC Massachusetts/Gould Construction Institute of Woburn, Mass. JMC was one of only three contractors to receive the Diamond Award. “We take safety very seriously. In construction, accidents can happen. Everyone involved must be vigilant and be open to ways to improve. It is an honor to be recognized by ABC with this award,” said Richard Gilfoy, CFO at JMC. Gilfoy became part owner in the company earlier this year, together with Andrew Coull, president; and Chris Oldham, COO and EVP.
