Joseph J. Blake & Associates’ director Maloney awarded the Appraisal Institute’s MAI membership designation

Malden, MA Robert Maloney, MAI, a director at the firm of Joseph J. Blake & Associates has been awarded the Appraisal Institute’s prestigious MAI membership designation, which is held by appraisers who are experienced in the valuation and evaluation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties, and who advise clients on real estate investment decisions. On January 28, he was presented with his MAI certificate by John Mello, SRA, 2016 chapter president at the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapter’s first general meeting of the year.

Maloney has over has over 13 years of appraisal experience across a broad range of commercial real estate property types. In 2000, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the Boston College School of Management and in 2013 became a certified general appraiser. In 2015, he passed the Appraisal Institute’s Comprehensive Exam, successfully completed the General Demonstration Report via the Capstone Program, and earned the MAI designation. He was also a recipient of a Hewitt Scholarship from the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapter. Maloney strongly believes the rigorous requirements related to education, testing, experience, and demonstration of knowledge have strengthened his skills as an appraiser.

By receiving the MAI designation, Maloney has joined an elite group of appraisers who have met rigorous professional requirements relating to education, testing, experience and demonstration of knowledge, understanding and ability.

The MAI designation is received upon the successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report and attaining 4,500 hours of qualifying experience requirements. Also, designees must abide by both the appraisal profession’s Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the Appraisal Institute’s Standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics.

MAIs are recognized experts in appraising properties of all kinds and form a business network encompassing markets nationwide and around the world. Currently, about 8,200 real estate appraisal professionals hold the MAI designation, with another 2,700 practitioners seeking it.
