KBE Building Corp. awarded $17 million renovation project

Storrs, CT The University of Connecticut community will soon enjoy updated classrooms and administrative space thanks to a new $17 million construction project recently awarded to KBE Building Corp.

KBE is serving as general contractor for the renovation of the Henry Ruthven Monteith Building and the attached auditorium known as the Andre Schenker Lecture Hall. Both buildings encompass classroom and administrative space for several departments within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, including economics, journalism, and political science. 

The scope of work includes no less than 27 major upgrades, including the following:

• Complete mechanical systems upgrade;

• Improved electrical systems to support the air conditioning and other programmatic needs;

• Upgraded and uniformly sized faculty offices;

• Upgraded classrooms;

• New fixed seating and finish upgrades in lecture halls and more.

The project is scheduled to commence this fall, with completion scheduled for late summer 2016.

A long-time builder for the University, KBE Building Corp. is leading the design-build team for the STEM residence hall.
