Landmark Structures named general contractor for $2 million firehouse renovation

Landmark Structures Corp., a leading full service general contractor/construction management Co. since 1993, has been retained to serve as general contractor for a joint venture renovation project between ZUMIX and the East Boston Community Development Corp. The estimated $2 million project, currently underway, will encompass the renovation of a 9,000 s/f former firehouse at 260 Sumner St. into the new home of ZUMIX, a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to building community through music and the arts. The organization currently maintains headquarters at 202 Maverick St. ZUMIX and the East Boston Community Development Corp., in a joint venture, purchased the former fire house from the city. The circa-1900 structure, known as the Engine Co. 40 Firehouse, has been completely gutted; once the construction project is completed over the next nine months, the renovated building will house offices, a radio station, recording studio, a music production studio, classrooms and performance space for ZUMIX.  The new building will be a LEED certified structure; as such it is being constructed around the core LEED standard elements, including site sustainability, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials content, indoor environmental quality and innovative design.   "It is a pleasure working with the fine team at Landmark Structures, and knowing how committed all involved are to this project," said Madeleine Steczynski, founder/executive director of ZUMIX. "We are also excited that our new center will be LEED certified and look forward to its completion when it will be buzzing with the energy of young people." "We take great pride in being a part of this exciting project; once completed this center will serve as a source of education and entertainment for many young people in East Boston and for the community at large," said William Glasser, president/CEO of Landmark Structures.
