Lee Kennedy Co. selected as construction manager for $16.5 million JFK Library addition/renovation
The National Archives & Record Administration has selected Lee Kennedy Co., Inc. from a nationwide contractor search to perform an extensive renovation and new addition project at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
Lee Kennedy Co. will partner with Boston-based architect Einhorn Yaffee Prescott on the $16.5 million project. Preconstruction planning is currently underway; the team will mobilize on site in early 2010 with completion scheduled for fall 2011.
The scope of work consists of 20,000 s/f of renovation within the library and museum as well as construction of a new 30,000 s/f addition to house artifacts and documents previously stored off-site. Renovations include archive and artifact storage areas; support space; offices; security areas; exhibit space; the main lobby and gift shop and some deferred maintenance.
Renovations will occur on multiple floors within the building, which will remain open and fully functional throughout construction. Lee Kennedy Co.'s success mitigating construction impact in occupied areas, coupled with a portfolio of library projects, made the firm a natural choice for this project.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum project is the latest addition to the company's ongoing work in the academic/ institutional market, which includes The Boston Conservatory Hemenway Project; Harvard University Weld Hill Research & Administration Building and Wellesley College Alumnae Hall, among others.
