As part of an ongoing effort to bring fresh interest and new investment to Lexington Center, the town's economic development office is spearheading a temporary public space installation in an underutilized alley between 1761 and 1775 Massachusetts Ave. "A key component of cultivating a vital center is providing special places for people gather," said Melisa Tintocalis, the economic development director at the Lexington Center Committee. "This type of innovation in public space elevates the Lexington Center from ordinary to extraordinary. It offers a new invitation for business activity."
The temporary installation will be in place from July 25 to November 1. The installation will include outdoor seating, an outdoor playhouse, and a checkerboard to add a playful element of surprise. The temporary nature of the project will allow the town to test the space and gather public feedback.
The temporary installation is the result of a collaboration with the adjacent property owners, including Joseph Trani and Bank of America, as well as, community groups such as the Lexington Center Committee. The project aims to enhance pedestrian connectivity and improve the aesthetic appeal of the alley.
