New officers and directors being sworn in

Peter Scotti, Peter M. Scotti & Associates Inc.

On October 2, the Rhode Island Commercial and Appraisal Board of REALTORS hosted our Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers and Directors at the Squantum Association in East Providence. I am pleased to announce our executive committee for 2013: president - Gregory Skoutas; vice president - Jeffrey Butler; treasurer - Ann Foncellino; corporate secretary - James Moore. I am looking forward to continuing my service to our association as immediate past president.
We had a year of accomplishments and we will draw on our experiences to ensure a successful year in 2013. Our goals included the establishment of a standing professional standards committee and dispute resolution platform. This option allows our members to resolve disputes without undergoing a costly legal ordeal.
Our membership also took a hard look at the industry data sources available to commercial brokers and appraisers. A task force was developed to make recommendations to our Statewide MLS which has brought about some dynamic changes that will offer members robust listing and sales data at a highly reduced cost. We anticipate that the results of this effort will be unveiled in early 2013.
Commercial lien legislation was a priority for 2012 and will continue to be in 2013. Our efforts to ensure appropriate compensation to commercial real estate practitioners will kick off with a special guest, Attorney James Hochman, of Coman and Anderson, PC who will join us on November 16, from 9 a.m. - noon at the Sheraton Hotel at 1850 Post Rd. in Warwick, for a special presentation
"Your VALUE in the Commercial Real Estate Transaction." Attorney Hochman has successfully authored numerous Commercial Broker Lien Acts throughout the country and we are pleased to welcome his expertise to our team! If you would like to join us, please contact our office.
It has been my honor to serve with the professionals at the R.I. Commercial and Appraisal Board of REALTORS and R.I. Association of REALTORS. I am pleased to say that our organization is in the position to be the united voice of commercial real estate and real estate evaluation in R.I.
Peter Scotti is the president of the Rhode Island Commercial and Appraisal Board of Realtors, Providence, R.I.
