April 02, 2021 - Front Section

Malden, MA The Massachusetts Building Trades Council released the following statement praising the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of incoming Labor Secretary Martin Walsh:

“Marty Walsh is the Labor Secretary our nation needs today. In the face of increased attacks on labor rights and worsening income inequality, we need a tested leader who will fight for working families. We know from first-hand experience that Marty is the right leader for the job. He was taught to respect workers at the kitchen table, following his father as a member and then president of Laborers Local 223. He brought those lessons and values to the State House as a State Representative, leading the charge to advance workers’ rights. As head of the Boston Building Trades Council, he worked to extend the benefits of union careers to more women and people of color. As Mayor of Boston, Marty has made it his mission to improve the lives of working families every day. Thanks to his leadership, people across our region benefit from a strong economy and better jobs, wages, and protections on the job. We look forward to working with him in the years ahead to improve the quality of life for America’s workers and build a brighter future for our nation.” - Francis Callahan, president of the Massachusetts Building Trades Council

Mass. construction union members voiced their support for Labor Secretary Walsh. The council also shared a video of members from across the state’s construction industry congratulating Walsh on his new role and thanking him for his service.
