Meet the IREM Member - Mellen

Christopher Mellen, CPM, vice president of the Simon Companies, a national real estate owner, manager and developer headquartered in Braintree, Mass., has been appointed a senior vice president of the 18,000-plus member Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). Among his responsibilities is oversight of IREM's legislative activities. Mellen is directly involved in managing Community Habitat, Inc., AMO, The Simon Cos.' property management division, which provides expertise in managing both market-rate and subsidized residential units and commercial office properties. With over 30 years of property management experience, he earned the IREM-conferred Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation and the Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) certification; he also holds a Massachusetts real estate broker's license. Long active in IREM's Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4, Mellen has held numerous chapter leadership positions, including that of president. He has been active in IREM at the national level as well, serving as a regional vice president and as a current member of the IREM Executive Committee. Mellen is on the real estate faculty of Boston University and also is a faculty member of IREM. He has twice been named "Real Estate Executive of the Month" by the New England Real Estate Journal. He earned a BBA in Real Estate from Temple University, an MS in Management from Boston University, and a master's certificate in Project Management. He resides in Dedham, MA. IREM has been the source for education, resources, information and membership for real estate management professionals for nearly 75 years. An affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, IREM is one of the only professional real estate management associations serving both the multifamily and commercial real estate sectors. With 80 U.S. chapters, 12 international chapters and several other partnerships around the globe, IREM is an international organization that also serves as an advocate on issues affecting the real estate management industry. Membership includes more than 18,000 individual members and 500 corporate members. IREM promotes ethical real estate management practices through its credentialed membership programs, including the Certified Property Manager® (CPM®) designation, the Accredited Residential Manager® (ARM®) certification, the Accredited Commercial Manager certification and the Accredited Management Organization® (AMO®) accreditation. These esteemed credentials certify competence and professionalism for those engaged in real estate management. In addition, IREM offers Associate, Student and Academic memberships.
