Methuen Construction and Interstate Electrical Services recognized by ABC-Mass. for Westborough wastewater treatment facility

Methuen Construction and Interstate Electric Services Corp. have earned two Excellence in Construction Awards from the Mass. Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). The joint venture won a first-place Eagle award in the "Commercial/Industrial over $1 million" category and a Green award in the annual statewide competition for its work expanding Westborough's wastewater treatment facility. Green awards are presented for projects that demonstrate significant achievements in green and sustainable construction. Methuen and Interstate are among just 13 contractors selected as recipients of ABC's 2012 Excellence in Construction Awards. "The work done by these two ABC member companies represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Mass. ABC president Greg Beeman. "They should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry." To ensure that the project would be completed ahead of schedule and under budget with no interruption of the plant's wastewater treatment process, the companies removed the existing concrete distribution box and replaced it with a temporary pre-cast vault. When ledge rock was discovered, the Methuen-Interstate joint venture worked with engineers to shift the Phosphorus Treatment Building footprint by 20 feet. They also performed emergency structural repairs when severely deteriorated concrete was found in the existing common headworks channel.
