December 08, 2023 - Owners Developers & Managers

Weymouth, MA Monarch Communities, a provider of senior living services, together with Welltower, officially opened The Current, a person-centric wellness-oriented senior living community. Located at 1435 Main St., The Current Weymouth is the first of its brand: A luxury community inspired by the South Shore, designed with care to bring people together and empower residents to live their best lives.

“We are excited to officially introduce The Current brand and to show the community what true wellness-focused senior living can look like,” said Michael Glynn, CEO of Monarch Communities. “This community was inspired by Well Building Certification metrics that take a holistic approach to health, incorporating the benefits of nourishment, air, light, water, and movement. In essence, we’ve crafted an environment where people can enhance their daily experiences, enjoy the quality of their lives, and become more who they are in a stress-free atmosphere. We look forward to sharing our vision of community with the South Shore.”

Featuring four levels of personalized health & wellness services in the continuum of care – independent living, assisted living, memory care, and respite care – The Current enables aging-in-place with seamless transitions between care levels, all amid the charm of a seaside community with modern amenities and conveniences. The Current features fitness and wellness areas offering a full schedule of group fitness classes like restorative yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and services like personal massages. The community also features hydration and healthy snack stations. There is a full hair salon for residents. For food lovers, four chef-driven restaurants offer locally sourced meals, and adaptations are available for all dietary needs. The community is pet-friendly with expansive grounds including patios, rooftop decks, and dedicated greenspaces.

Transportation is offered to residents to enhance access to local destinations for fun outings, to run errands, to participate in faith communities, and to attend medical appointments. The Current boasts partnerships with the local healthcare community, including South Shore Hospital. The Current can also provide transportation to transfer residents directly from hospitals to rehabilitation centers as needed.

“What we’re building here is a continuum of care with both heart and compassion,” Glynn said.

“From our carefully chosen care managers, to the quality and breadth of vendors we’ve partnered with, to the proximity to the best hospital and healthcare providers on the South Shore, as well as transportation to Boston and the surrounding area – we want every experience at The Current to give residents peace of mind the minute they walk into their new home and community.”

“The Current’s tenured team has a wealth of experience serving the South Shore. We understand that every resident arrives with a story, and it is our job as a team to find out what that is and enhance it,” said Eileen Mahoney, executive director of The Current Weymouth. “We understand that entering a senior living community may feel like a transition for our residents. We are grateful for the opportunity to walk with them through that transition and add some vibrancy and connection to their lives, especially if those were lacking in another setting.”

Lifestyle and quality of life will be central to The Current experience. To communicate those values, the team enlisted creative director and photographer Nigel Barker, TV personality, fashion photographer, author, spokesperson, and filmmaker. Barker will lend his creative talents to help tell the story of The Current and its services.

“I know the challenge of finding suitable senior living accommodations for family members. I was blown away by the thoughtfulness to detail, the creativity, and the practical concern built into The Current. The fact that someone from my background is telling their story speaks to the transformational and fresh approach The Current is taking to senior living,” said Barker. “You owe it to yourself and your family to see what matters at The Current, and to consider this senior living option for anyone in your life who wants or needs a fresh start. There’s no reason not to make the next chapter the best yet.”

The community will employ over 100 staffers and will feature 165 apartments with the capacity to accommodate 200 residents.
