Mott & Chace and Gustave White sell The Haversham property for $4.5 million

Westerly, RI Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty closed the sale of 336 Post Rd. for $4.5 million. The buyers were represented by Gregory Arakelian, sales associate of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. The sellers were represented by Mike Sweeney, Kate Greenman, and Michelle Kirby of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty.

According to data from the Multiple Listing Service, this is the highest commercial sale in Washington County, and the second highest commercial sale in the state, year to date.

The Haversham was built in 1830 and has a history as a public establishment, evolving from a tavern to a wedding and event venue. The site underwent a renovation, including improvement to the original structures, and a landscape redesign that incorporated features like waterfalls, stone archways, a pond, and specimen plantings, all designed to provide a backdrop for destination weddings and special events.

Currently, the Haversham Tavern is a restaurant that also features live music and several bars, including a new oyster bar. The adjoining Haversham House serves as an event venue that can separately accommodate large weddings and special events. Finally, an outdoor lounge, bar, concert venue and volleyball courts, make up what is called The Shamlot. The property is comprised of 14 acres, three kitchens, three bars, a 225-seat restaurant, and a two-story event building, totaling 16,500 s/f of retail space.

The buyers, the Bellone family, with 55 years of hospitality experience, are the creators, owners and hands-on managers of Breezeway Boutique Hotel, Maria’s Seaside Cafe and The Hotel Maria. On behalf of his family, John Bellone said, “The Haversham Tavern and House is a historic and beloved landmark in our community, and we are honored to be able to make this purchase. We fully intend to continue the well-established tradition of good food, good drink, and hometown hospitality.”
