MSBA adopts new sustainable building guidelines with help from NEXUS

April 21, 2010 - Green Buildings
The Board of Directors of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) established the Authority as a leader when they voted to adopt new sustainable building design guidelines for new construction and addition/renovation projects seeking funding from MSBA. The Green Roundtable / NEXUS provided technical assistance and policy support in the development of the agency's sustainable building design guidelines and green schools funding program model.
With input from professional firms and organizations in the community, NEXUS and MSBA staff outlined green recommendations that were successfully adopted by the Board on March 31, 2010. The new policy is an update to the agency's existing energy efficiency and sustainable design guidelines which serves to align MSBA's building design and construction requirements with the agencies commitment to funding the most energy efficient, healthy and long lasting projects. The policy establishes baseline green design requirements for all school projects receiving funding from MSBA and financial incentive for projects that exceed these standards. Learn more about the policy that will go into effect July 1, 2010.
