NAIOP Mass. elected a new president and board of directors, along with a new executive committee. The new board includes the principals of many of the region's leading commercial real estate firms.
Kevin McCall, president and CEO of both Paradigm Properties and Paradigm Capital Advisors, was elected president of NAIOP Mass. for 2009. In this capacity, he will work closely with NAIOP staff and chapter leadership to guide the chapter's operations. McCall provides leadership and oversees the managerial activities of both companies with particular emphasis on strategy, client relations, new investments, and raising capital.
McCall is committed to issues of civic engagement, youth leadership, and social justice in urban communities, and he has taken an interest in NAIOP's charitable and community development activities. He serves as a board member of the Boston Center for Community & Justice, the Boston Museum project, MetroLacrosse, and Hearth, Inc. and he is the founder and board chair of Building Impact, a nonprofit organization that provides an innovative model for community involvement to individuals and companies in over 50 Boston-area office and apartment properties.
Sarah Abrams, Fidelity Real Estate Co., will serve as president-elect and Jonathan Davis, The Davis Cos., will serve as chairman of the board of directors. Davis served as the 2008 chapter president, and Abrams served as the 2008 secretary/treasurer. Brain Kavoogian, Charles River Realty Investors, was elected the new secretary/treasurer, and Kathryn West, Partners HealthCare System, will serve as the chapter's senior VP.

Also at the annual meeting, NAIOP presented special awards to select members who have made contributions to NAIOP.
Jon Davis presented the 2008 President's Award to Garry Holmes, president of R.W. Holmes Realty, who served as the chair of the 2008 Charitable Events Committee. In addition, Holmes has planned the market roundups and annual forecasts that NAIOP presents with SIOR for the past nine years.
The second President's Award was presented to Amanda Strong, director at Colony Realty Partners, and president of the African American Real Estate Professionals of N.E. (AAREP). As president, Strong helped broker a mutually beneficial partnership between AAREP and NAIOP, helping the chapter achieve its goals of increasing diversity within the chapter and the commercial real estate industry. NAIOP has since sponsored two AAREP events, and Strong now serves on NAIOP's Program Committee.
The Chapter's Public Affairs Award was given to a member who has made contributions to the Chapter's Public Affairs efforts, Bob Fishman, of Nutter, McClennen & Fish. Fishman has been active for years in NAIOP and we are grateful for his commitment to the issues affecting our industry. For the past year, Fishman, has represented NAIOP on the administration's zoning reform work group, fighting tirelessly to ensure that issues affecting the commercial real estate industry are considered.
Following the business portion of the annual meeting, a keynote address on "Research Universities and the N.E. Economy: The Outlook for the Future" was presented by Tufts University president Lawrence Bacow.
