Bethesda, MD The revised NECA 200-2016 Standard for Installing and Maintaining Temporary Electric Power at Construction Sites is now available from the National Electrical Contractors Assn. (NECA). NECA 200-2016 is the latest revised publication in the National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS) series published by NECA.

“Temporary construction lighting and power must be safe for workers and is definitely not an ‘anything goes’ situation on construction sites,” said Michael Johnston, executive director of standards and safety at the contractors’ association. “NECA originally developed NECA 200 to clarify many essential requirements for installing temporary power and lighting for construction projects including use of ground-fault circuit interrupter protection for personnel.”

This revised edition of NECA 200 details vital installation criteria for temporary electrical power and lighting systems at construction sites, operating at 600 volts or less. It covers the design and planning, installation, expansion, maintenance, cutover, and removal of the temporary power system. “Adopting this standard on a jobsite is essential to ensure a safe, adequate, functional, and reliable temporary electrical power system for all trades working on the site,” Johnston said. NECA 200 also serves as the base standard for the new NECA Guide to Temporary Power.
