NEWiRE awards first Educational Foundation Scholarship to Long

The NEWiRE Educational Foundation, Inc. has awarded its first annual scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to Mary Long. Long worked as a brokerage assistant at CB Richard Ellis and is currently putting herself through law school at Suffolk University. The NEWIRE Educational Foundation, established in 2009 as a 501(c) (3) charitable foundation of New England Women in Real Estate (NEWiRE), is an endowed fund that will support the NEWIRE Educational Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a female student entering her junior year, senior year or graduate program at an accredited college or university based in New England. The student must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the commercial real estate industry through her course studies and/or internships in a commercial real estate firm. The NEWiRE Educational Foundation is funded through the proceeds from the Annual NEWiRE Networking Charity Golf Tournament. The 2010 Charity Golf Tournament was held on September 20th, at the Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Mass. "We were pleased to receive 12 strong applications from area colleges and universities," said Emily Batchelder, vice president and general manager at CB Richard Ellis and president of the NEWiRE Educational Foundation. "If the quality of these applications is any indication, NEWiRE's future is bright. We extend our sincere congratulations to Mary Long on being the first recipient of the NEWiRE Educational Foundation Scholarship, and wish her continued success as she pursues a career in real estate." NEWiRE is the region's leading professional organization promoting the advancement of women within the commercial real estate industry. Since its creation in 1982 by a small group of women professionals with considerable vision, NEWIRE has been an important force behind the increasing success of women in New England's real estate community.
