Boston, MA National law firm Nutter has engaged Elkus Manfredi Architects to develop a strategic workplace plan at the firm’s 100,000 s/f headquarters at 155 Seaport Blvd. in the Seaport District. The project represents an investment in updating Nutter’s flagship office to support its growing team with updated infrastructure, amenities and collaboration spaces.
A pioneer in seeding the Seaport as a destination for innovative firms, Nutter continues to value the location for its proximity to other leading businesses and institutions.
In collaboration with the firm’s leadership, Elkus Manfredi Architects is creating a welcoming and collaborative environment that supports the firm’s client-centric culture, fosters connections and innovation, and attracts high-level talent.
Strategic planning and design will ensure Nutter optimizes its space while accommodating growth while also providing world-class hospitality focused client and employee spaces.
“The past several years have been among the most dynamic in Nutter’s history, marked by national growth, evolving client needs, and the continued expansion of our team,” said Nutter’s co-managing partner Michael Scott. “After more than two decades in the Seaport, we saw an opportunity to reimagine our workplace in a way that strengthens collaboration, supports our people, and reinforces our role as a convenor for clients and the broader business community. Elkus Manfredi Architects understood both our culture and our business objectives, and brought the vision and expertise to help translate them into a workplace designed for the future.”
Elkus Manfredi Architects brings deep expertise in understanding the unique character, culture, and vision of law firms across the country. “We focus on supporting the business of law through planning and designing environments that enable mentoring, facilitate client service, strengthen culture, and foster the creativity essential to solving complex legal challenges,” says Elizabeth Lowrey, the Principal at Elkus Manfredi Architects leading the project. “Good office design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating spaces that deliver lasting value and adapt seamlessly as firms evolve.” In addition, to ensure its clients stay ahead of emerging trends in law firm workplace design, Elkus Manfredi Architects produces a biannual Legal Workplace Snapshot© research report featuring proprietary analysis and insights.
The renovated Nutter office will incorporate maximum flexibility as a core design principle, with offices configured to easily become shared spaces and amenities positioned to adapt to changing needs with minimal effort and expense. Particularly important is the focus on the conference center and amenity areas, reinforcing Nutter’s role as convenors of the Boston legal and business community. Amenity areas will include a reception lounge, café with barista service, and wellness rooms.
“Creating areas in the Nutter office to support collegial interaction and opportunities to engage with firm’s clients will create a noticeable energy that will resonate,” explains Elizabeth Lowrey. “Noticeable energy is what we strive for when planning and designing workspaces, understanding that engaged professionals in a ‘destination office’, rather than an ‘obligation office’, is an all-round win.”
The strategic workplace plan and renovation are anticipated for completion in late Fall 2026 with Nutter continuing to occupy their office throughout the process.
