Obama nominates McCarthy to lead U.S. EPA

Gina McCarthy, the former CT DEP Commissioner, has been nominated by President Obama as the next EPA Administrator, McCarthy is credited with reinvigorating the environmental agenda in Conn., modernizing DEP, and engaging young people in environmental protection through the innovative No Child Left Inside program. She has headed up EPA's Office of Air and Radiation since 2009, and is known for her practical and personable approach to resolving environmental issues and concerns.
At EPA McCarthy has focused on reducing greenhouse emissions and establishing fuel efficiency standards. While in CT, she worked closely with the construction industry regarding diesel emissions from construction equipment, initiating the state's first comprehensive diesel emission study and research that has served the construction industry well.
