Operating Engineers Local 4 donates more than $120,000 to local veterans organizations

Boston, MA In honor of Veterans Day, Operating Engineers Local 4 Charitable Foundation Inc. has donated more than $120,000 to New England veterans organizations.

The donations are part of the union’s ongoing commitment to honor and support those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“We are proud to be able to support these great organizations as we honor the courage and dedication of the men and women who have served,” said Michael Bowes, business manager of Operating Engineers Local 4. “Their sacrifices, along with their families, have made this nation safer and stronger. Local 4 is committed to supporting organizations that support veterans in our communities by providing them with essential tools and resources for life after service.”

Local 4’s charitable foundation is making more than half a dozen donations to local veterans organizations, including $25,000 to Project New Hope, $25,000 to Veterans Inc., $25,000 to New England Center and Home for Veterans, $20,000 to House in the Woods, $10,000 to the Seabee Museum & Memorial Park, and $5,000 to Massachusetts Fallen Heroes.

The donations were made possible by the 7th Annual William D. McLaughlin Golf Outing hosted by the Operating Engineers Local 4 Charitable Foundation, Inc. Each year, attendees from the Local 4 community come together for this great event and help contribute to local charities through sponsorships, participation, and personal donations.

Local 4 has a long history of supporting veterans’ causes and organizations. For the better part of two decades it has participated in Helmets to Hardhats, a national nonprofit established in 2003 by the building trades unions to connect veterans and servicemembers with union apprenticeship programs. The organization’s mission is to help veterans transition into civilian life with family-sustaining careers in the union building trades. Today’s announcement includes a $10,000 donation to Helmets to Hardhats from Local 4.
