Lincoln, RI Three Pare Corp.-designed projects were awarded Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Rhode Island (ACEC-RI). Because of the pandemic, the 2020 awards presentation was postponed and both the 2020 and 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards were presented at the ACEC-RI Annual Meeting held on June 28th

The 1st place 2020 Gold Anchor Award for a Project with Construction Costs of More than $10M was awarded to Pare Corp. for the R.I. Veterans Home in Bristol on behalf of the R.I. Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance. Pare provided site/civil and geotechnical engineering, wetlands and traffic permitting, and construction-phase services for the $121-million project which encompassed 272,000 s/f of new building construction, 42 acres of site work, and the demolition of the former 200,000 s/f facility. An important component of the project was moving the historic (ca.1890) 60-foot-tall water tower 807 feet to a new location near the entrance of the facility. Pare was responsible for the design of site improvements, ADA compliance, green stormwater facilities, wetlands permitting, and construction-phase services.

The 3rd place 2021 Gold Star Award for Outstanding Professional Design Excellence for a Project with Construction Costs of More than $10 Million was presented to Pare for Brookside Hall on behalf of the University of R.I., Office of Capital Projects.

Pare was a member of the multidisciplinary team for the design and construction of a new $94 million, 203,000 s/f six-story apartment-style dormitory on URI’s Kingston Campus. Pare completed a review of existing conditions, wetlands delineation, floodplain analysis, site/civil design, bike path design, stormwater design, and RIDEM freshwater wetlands permitting. The project incorporated a stormwater management system, eliminated two acres of impervious area, and daylighted a portion of the White Horn Brook into the site design. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).  To promote sustainable transportation initiatives, the design also included a multi-use path which connects the Campus to the William C. O’Neill (South County) Bike Path, running between West Kingston and Narragansett. 

The 3rd place 2021 Gold Star Award for Outstanding Professional Design Excellence for a Project with Construction Costs of Less than $10 Million was presented to Pare Corporation for The Larry Mouradjian Fishing Pier, located at Rocky Point State Park in Warwick, on behalf of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.  Pare developed a schematic site plan, performed a resiliency review for the site, and designed a new 260-foot-long wooden pier that sits on 122 piles and is elevated 13 feet above the surface of Narragansett Bay. The aesthetically appealing fishing pier has a 21-foot by 111-foot main deck with shade cupola, strategically placed benches, elevations that limit grade changes and ramps, and railings of varying heights with low cut sections to ensure accessibility for fishing by visitors of all abilities.  The pier is located at the confluence of East Greenwich Bay and the mouth of the Providence River, making it the only true deep-water fishing pier in Narragansett Bay.  It is named in honor of Larry Mouradjian, who throughout his 37-year career at RIDEM, fiercely advocated for the protection of and public access to Rhode Island’s natural resources.
