Peabody Properties, Inc., a full-service real estate firm managing in excess of 10,000 housing units across New England, was recently recognized by the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) for the superior management of Pynchon Edgewater Apartments.
Each year, NAHMA's Community of Quality National Recognition and Awards program certifies affordable, multi-unit rental properties which achieve a high standard of excellence in the areas of physical maintenance, financial management, residential programs and services, employee credentials and other selective criteria.
Pynchon Edgewater Apartments - a 614-unit property - was the recipient of NAHMA's 2013 Exemplary Family Development Community of Quality Award. Located in a neighborhood that has experienced crime and violence, the management team at Pynchon Edgewater Apartments spearheaded an initiative - in collaboration with the Tenant Association, Massachusetts State and Springfield police, local elected officials and more than 60 civic, business and social services agencies - to improve security both on the property and in the surrounding community. Since the initiative's 2010 inception, neighborhood crime has decreased by 68% and in May 2013 CBS News's "60 Minutes" featured Pynchon Edgewater Apartments as a model for other communities, nationwide.
According to Peabody Properties principal and chief operating officer, Melissa Fish-Crane, the Exemplary Family Development Community of Quality Award is a true testament to the tireless efforts of the Pynchon Edgewater Apartments management team in revitalizing the community and improving the quality of life for residents. "The progress at Pynchon Edgewater Apartments is truly remarkable. The Pynchon team has worked diligently with city and state police, elected officials and so many others in the Springfield community, forming true and lasting partnerships, and significantly reducing crime," said Fish-Crane. "We're honored to accept this award from NAHMA and we're grateful for their recognition."
The firm and property were recognized on March 10 at NAHMA's Annual Winter Meeting in Washington, DC. 2013 Community of Quality winners were selected from a pool of more than 80 applicants, nationwide. The Pynchon Edgewater Apartments award marked Peabody Properties' 47th NAHMA Community of Quality designation.
