Plan NH is a non-profit organization established in 1989 with a mission to encourage good planning, design and development because, they believe, what we build, where we build and how we build has a significant impact on the fabric of a community. The organization is comprised of individuals and companies with an interest in promoting and implementing environmentally, economically and socially sustainable communities.
Every year Plan NH accepts nominations for their Merit Awards of Excellence Program and chooses projects they feel reflect the mission and spirit of Plan New Hampshire. Warrenstreet Architects, Inc. received honorable mention awards for two projects we submitted, The Friendly Kitchen and Building on Hope's - Manchester Girls Inc. Facility. The projects were honored at the Plan NH Merit Awards Dinner on, April 3rd at Fratello's in Manchester. Wendy Noyes and Lindsay O'Connell of Warrenstreet attended along with many key players from both projects.
The Friendly Kitchen, a soup kitchen, located in Concord is 5,800 s/f and houses a lobby and gathering area, dining room for 120 guests, bathrooms, a commercial kitchen, plenty of storage pantry space, as well as administrative office and meeting space. The previous building suffered extreme damage by fire on April 30th, 2011. Warrenstreet worked closely with the board of director's through the entire process.
The Manchester Girls Center located at 340 Varney St. in Manchester was chosen by the Building on Hope committee to undergo major renovations, repairs and cosmetic work which is housed in a 27 year old former church. The center offers a wide variety of services and programs for girls, their families and community members. Each day 100 at-risk girls attend the Manchester Girls Center and receive instruction in personal safety, economic literacy, and media messages to health concerns. Beyond the enrichment and personal development programs, each evening Girls, Inc. provides 50-60 girls with a hot, nutritious meal in a safe, family friendly environment.
