President’s message: Get involved with BOMA

Even though I’m a lifelong Red Sox fan, I must admit the world lost one of its great philosophers when Yogi Berra (who played and managed the Yankees) passed away this week. His quotes often had a certain “naiveté,” – a clever guise – and touched on many deep-rooted truths. Here are some great ones for you to ponder:

“You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.”

“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

“You can’t observe a lot by watching.”

And of course the old classic, “It ain’t over till it’s over.”

Never were wiser words said, with no deference intended towards Aristotle, Socrates or Nietzsche. It’s all about how you choose to live your life. Will you be a leader or a follower? An optimist or a pessimist? or a risk-taker versus a stick in-the-mud?

God rest your soul, Mr. Berra.

This month, we continued our building tours as we visited the Loft apartments at Front St. in Hartford on October 1st, with a happy hour to follow. This is yet another part of the housing renaissance we are witnessing Downtown, BOMA having sponsored a tour last month at 777 Main St.

We hosted our annual Honoree Awards Dinner on October 15th, celebrating varied businesses, positions and members who’ve been a part of your Hartford BOMA for a long time. And remember to check your mail for information on this year’s Holiday Social. I can’t believe I’m speaking of the holidays already – I haven’t even decided what to be this year for Halloween!

Enjoy the beautiful New England fall season, get involved and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Ron Goodin is the president of BOMA Greater Hartford, and is with Fletcher Thompson Architects, Hartford, Conn.
