Pro Con Inc and West Street Properties hold topping-off of West Street Hotel

A topping-off ceremony celebrating the placement of the last remaining piece of structural steel was recently held at the West Street Hotel, a new luxury boutique hotel over looking the waterfront and near the Bar Harbor Town Dock. The developer and owner of the property is West Street Properties LLC. Pro Con Inc is the architect and construction manager for the mixed-use development that will include the hotel, retail space and restaurants. As part of the ceremony steel workers fastened an American flag, a small fir tree and a broom to the last beam before it was hoisted into place. The broom symbolizes a "clean sweep", indicating that no workers have been injured in erecting the building's steel frame and the tree represents growth. "As the final steel beam was carefully set into place, the cheers rose from the crowd watching on the street," said the superintendent for Pro Con Inc. "It's exciting to see the hotel taking shape and reach this major milestone." The hotel is expected to be completed in late spring 2012. West Street Hotel's unique location along the waterfront offers incredible views of the harbor and is in easy walking distance to the downtown. All of the hotel's 102 guestrooms will feature water views and individual balconies. The hotel's public spaces will have upscale finishes including tile floors, granite countertops and custom millwork. Plans call for the upscale boutique hotel to include a restaurant, roof top pool, and a fitness room. The development will have ground level retail spaces available for future commercial tenants.
