Beverly Darling - 1966

Name: Beverly Darling - 1966

Company: Darling Associates

Location: Andover, Mass.

Birthplace: Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Education: Miss May School; Rollins College Beverly Darling studied sculpture and painting at Rollins in Florida until 1934 when she became ill. It wasn’t until 1940 that she was back on her feet again, returning to Boston and finding employment at Jays, an exclusive clothing store. During the next several years, Beverly married David Darling, an industrial engineer, and gave birth to four children, settling in Topsfield and then moving to Andover. During these years she became very active in civic affairs such as the League of Women Voters (twice president), in the Parents League and others. In the late 1940’s, David Darling became disabled and Beverly took on a new role as the breadwinner, finding employment at Strout Real Estate. In 1955, Darling visited the Hunneman Company, one of the largest real estate firms in New England, and suggested that they retain her services at a branch office in Andover, which they did and maintained for the next several years until Beverly decided to open her own office in 1963. “We handle all facets of the business including management and appraising. The new highways are helping the area grow, and we plan to grow with it.” With three children in college, Beverly, a Realtor, still finds time for her hobby, painting. While once the most important thing in her life was a private showing in a Boston gallery of her sculpture and paintings, today, the showing of a real estate property is of more value.
