William Bailey got his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1968 but left private practice, after being associated with Hale & Door in Boston and his brother, Atty. F. Lee Bailey, two years later to become vice president, counsel and a partner in the various development corporations of John Pearson of Nashua, N.H., the chairman and main stockholder of Edwards Construction. Bill is now president of Regal Inns of America, a hotel management company; L.D.I. Corp., a RE development firm; and Tudor Inns, a recently organized budget motel chain. The hotel arm owns and operates the Sheraton Regal in Hyannis, the Ramada Inn, Portland, Holiday Inn, Fall River and is building its first Tudor Inn in Chicopee. Another Sheraton is rising in Piscataway, N.J. and two others are being planned. The growth of all companies in such a short time is attributed to the in-depth management team developed under Bill and John’s leadership. As Bill puts it: “Through the blending of our talents we are able to bring the skill and sophistication to the tremendous complexities which arise in packaging RE ventures from time of conception to profitable operations. There’s a potential for growth in the industry for the right combination of design concept, good construction and property financing, and we’re just beginning to tap it.” Diversification and careful selection of talented and experienced management have marked the organization. L.D.I. is completing a condominium development in Cumberland, R.I. and was recently named by the Haverhill Redevelopment Auth. as a joint developer of a 105,000 s/f downtown shopping mall. “We’d like to put together a nice office park and are looking for possible locations,” Bill said. “We believe the public will bring their business to whomever delivers quality. Our hotels offer the comfort, service and amenities the traveler is looking for and their response has been very gratifying.” A lifelong resident of Boston, Bill and Irene (a Revere native) live in the Back Bay. He resigned as a captain in the Marine Corps in 1970 after three years’ active duty. Off the job, Bill is a member of the 100 Club, served as a directed of the Freedom House Foundation, is class agent for the Harvard class of 1962 and is active in cities where he owns properties.
