William Brown 1980 William Brown, GRI, CRS, of Manchester is leading the 11,500-member Massachusetts Assn. of Realtors this year. He was installed by National Assn. of Realtors president Ralph Pritchard of Illinois earlier this year. MAR executive vice president Milton Shaw, himself a past president, calls Bill “one of the most highly respected real estate brokers in the state, a recognized leader in Realtor and civic affairs.” Most recently, he headed the MAR’s annual Leadership Conference in Framingham, which outlined program policies and goals for 1980. One of his top priorities is a strengthened Realtor legislative, governmental and political effort. He launched the Realtor/Homeowner voter registration drive at the conference. Bill calls 1980 “a year of challenge and opportunity. We are on the threshold of one of the major business growth periods in our nation’s history, with more incentive to invest, less government regulation, greater incentive to produce more and better, higher incomes, more leisure time and more to spend it on.” He said billions will be invested in home modernization and homes will continue to be a major inflation hedge. Designated a Certified Residential Specialist by the Realtors National Marketing Institute last year, he graduated from the Mass. Realtors Institute in 1972. He is treasurer of Lufkin & Brown of Gloucester and was MAR first vice president in 1979. He has also served the MAR as secretary (1978), regional vice president (1977) and has been a director since 1973. Bill was also chairman of the MAR’s Land Poisoning Prevention and Publications Committee and a member of the Legislative Programs & Conferences and New England Convention Committees. Currently a director of the NAR, he served it on the State Combined Forms and RNMI State Membership Committees. President of the Cape Ann Board of Realtors in 1975-76, he is also a member of the Greater Salem Board and served on its Advertising Committee in 1975. He was the Cape Ann Board’s Realtor of the Year in 1972 and again in 1976. Bill has been a trustee of the MAR’s Political Action Committee since 1975 and was vice chairman last year, special gifts chairman for the past two years and a member of the Nominating and Executive Committees. He was also a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. A Realtor since 1969, he came into the business from a successful career in advertising. He was advertising director of Paine Furniture Co. for five years before that and previously was the advertising staff of Jordan Marsh Co. for six years. Bill is a member of the Real Estate Advisory Board of North Shore Community College, the Manchester Club, the Appalachian Mt. Club and a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Boston Valley. Educated in the Gloucester public schools, he served in the mid 1950s for three years with the U.S. Army Security Agency. He was class president for two years and received highest honors from the Art Institute of Boston in 1958. He and his wife Margaret live with their daughter Lisa and they also have two sons, Greg and Scott.
