Environmental and engineering firm Haley & Aldrich said that Marc Richards, P.E., LSP has joined the firm as a vice president and leader of the firm's Mass. Licensed State Professionals (LSP) team, effective immediately. In this new role, Richards will support Haley & Aldrich's LSPs and multi-disciplinary project teams in overseeing strategic environmental and MCP (Mass. Contingency Plan) compliance services for many of the firm's real estate clients.
Richards brings more than 20 years of experience helping companies with brownfield development, environmental assessment and clean-up, building deconstruction/demolition, and construction management. He is also experienced in polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) clean-up, vapor intrusion, historic/urban fill soils management (including asbestos-in-soils), solid waste permitting, and in-situ remediation.
"As Haley & Aldrich continues to experience significant growth, we are delighted to welcome Marc to our team, as his technical, business and regulatory expertise further augments our team's capabilities in the management and compliance of waste disposal sites in Massachusetts," said Joel Mooney, P.E., LSP, senior vice president and general manager of Haley & Aldrich's real estate business unit.
Mooney continued, "Additionally, Marc helps us meet our client's needs in areas of building demolition science and waste management. Of particular note is Marc's experience in managing PCBs in building materials, including innovative approaches to waste management. The addition of Marc reflects our philosophy to deliver integrated solutions that span the lifecycle of complex environmental initiatives, and to continually add top talent to meet our client's needs."

Richards brings an in-depth understanding of constantly changing regulatory provisions, and he works closely with organizations across Massachusetts to meet MCP regulations designed to streamline and accelerate the assessment and cleanup of hazardous materials. Haley & Aldrich's LSP team was established in 1993 in response to Massachusetts' LSP program to privatize the cleanup of hazardous waste sites. The firm's professionals who comprise the LSP team are licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to work on behalf of property owners, operators, and other responsible parties to oversee the assessment and clean-up of contamination that has been released into the environment.

Richards' professional affiliations include the Massachusetts Licensed Site Professional Association (LSPA), American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE), Boston Society of Civil Engineers (BSCE), the National Brownfields Association (NBA), and the National Demolition Association (NDA). He is a frequent speaker, and has published articles in media including the International Journal of Soil, Sediment and Water, and the New England Real Estate Journal. Richards earned a bachelor of science in Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a master of science in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Tufts University.
