Alexandria Roe, director of university planning for the University of Connecticut, has been named the recipient of the second annual "Woman of Accomplishment in the Architectural/Engineering /Construction Industry" award by Professional Women in Construction - Connecticut Chapter (PWC-CT). The award was presented to Roe in a ceremony held during a PWC-CT monthly meeting and professional development program at the Marriot.
Roe oversees the development of the UCONN's physical environment. She is responsible for all planning and programming efforts, real estate activities, space management and environmental policy.
The "Woman of Accomplishment" award, newly created last year by PWC-CT, is designed to honor a woman who has been working in the A/E/C industry for at least 10 years, and who exemplifies outstanding professional achievement, performance and contributions within her field of endeavor. Last year's award went to Lynn Fusco, CEO of Fusco Corp.
Previously she worked as the assistant vice chancellor for planning and technical services for the Connecticut State University System. She obtained her bachelor of architecture from Virginia Tech, and is a licensed architect in the state of Mass. as well as in Conn. She serves as a member of the North Atlantic Regional Council for the Society of College and University Planners, and is a member of the Association of University Architects, the American Institute of Architects and the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers.

Sally Katz, Director of Facilities for Trinity College, and Lenell Kittlitz, Director of Facilities & Planning for the Connecticut Community Colleges System Office wrote in the nomination document: "Alex's intellectual acumen and creativity have forever changed the "face" of the Central, Southern, Western and Eastern CT State University campuses."

"I am humbled, and greatly honored, by this recognition from PWC-CT." said Alex Roe, as she received the award - as well as a resounding ovation from the meeting's attendees.

PWC-CT supports education in the fields of architecture, construction and engineering. In 2011, the Chapter awarded 12 scholarships of $3,000 each to young women and men studying in these professions, and also donated $5,000 to the ACE Mentorship Program, which introduces the A/E/C profession as an option to high school students. The Chapter recognizes ongoing professional excellence with two annual awards: the above-mentioned "Woman of Accomplishment" award, and the "Woman on the Rise" award, given to a promising young professional.

Founded in 1980, Professional Women in Construction is a non profit 501 (c) 3 organization committed to advancing professional, entrepreneurial and managerial opportunities for women and other "non-traditional" populations in construction and related industries. Members of the Connecticut Chapter of PWC represent all major disciplines within our industry, and are drawn from Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Membership is open to women and men, private companies and public agencies actively engaged in the design / construction / real estate development fields as well as businesses supplying goods and services to the industry.
