Portland, ME At this year’s annual National Auctioneers Association Convention, Thomas Saturley, president of Tranzon Auction Properties, was honored by being inducted into the association’s Hall of Fame. He joins an elite group of auction professionals that have been honored since the tradition began in 1961. Saturley was inducted by longtime friend, partner and an inductee himself, Sandy Alderfer. Saturley, along with two others, were chosen by other Hall of Famers at last year’s convention – a decision that, per custom, remains a secret all the way to the next year’s induction ceremony. Speakers detail their relationship with the inductee all while trying their best to not reveal their identity. “Making that introduction was one of my greatest honors,” said Alderfer. 

A second generation auctioneer and self-proclaimed “recovering attorney,” Saturley began his auction career in 1991. It was also that year that he joined the NAA and “was recognized early on in his NAA career as a powerful motivator,” said Alderfer. He served on the board of directors starting in 2002 through 2005 and holds the distinction of being the only person asked by two presiding NAA presidents to be their presidential appointee to the NAA board of directors. 

He was elected to leadership positions starting in 2013, culminating as the Chairman of the Board in 2016. He received the Presidential Award of Distinction in 2003 for his arduous work on the NAA’s Education Institute and received the award again in 2016. 

In addition to his dedication and immense contributions to the NAA, Saturley is a dedicated community volunteer who describes giving back to his community as “a responsibility, an investment, and a privilege.” He has been a board member at numerous non-profit organizations including a longtime Board Chair of The Opportunity Alliance and has served as a Co-Chair of United Way Campaign. Furthermore, he does dozens and dozens of charity auctions every year – “always as a volunteer and always because he wants to make a contribution to his community,” said Alderfer during his speech.
