Shawmut Design and Construction has opened its newest office located at 1111 Elm St. Shawmut's scope of work in western Massachusetts will initially focus on the area's educational sector. "Having worked for a number of years on educational projects in this part of the state, including Mount Holyoke College, Amherst College, and Westfield State University, we couldn't be more excited to finally take the next step and officially expand into West Springfield," said Tom Goemaat, CEO of Shawmut. "This is an exciting time of unprecedented growth for our company, and we look forward to continuing our work in the Academic sector." Coinciding with the launch of its West Springfield location, Shawmut has been awarded two complex Academic sector projects: UMass Amherst's Hampshire Dining Common and the new Greenfield High School. The Hampshire Dining Common, set to be completed in August, consists of a 46,000 s/f renovation of the space centered around several food stations, as well as a new "back of house" kitchen area. The new multi-year Greenfield High School project is expected to begin in May 2013 and be completed prior to the 2015 school year. Shawmut's upcoming projects with UMass and Greenfield High School only further the company's growing academic group. The company's previous work within this sector includes projects with Harvard University, the University of Hartford, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Yale University, among others.
