Simon Konover Company hosts topping off of Dye House Apartments

September 15, 2010 - Connecticut
The Simon Konover Company recently hosted a topping off celebration at the Dye House Apartments.
Located in the Cheney Brothers National Historic Landmark District, the Dye House building is a classic example of timber and brick mill construction of the early 1900s. The adaptive reuse project seeks to create modern one, two and three-bedroom affordable apartment units while retaining the historic charm of the building's structure. 100% of the units will be set aside for income qualified tenants.
"The celebration marks the successful completion of the refurbishment/replacement of the building structure, a significant milestone which will enable the building to be weather tight so that the construction can progress in the winter months," said James Wakim, chief operating officer and executive vice president for The Simon Konover Company, developer and construction manager on the project.
Set to open in spring 2011, the Dye House will feature 57 unique apartments with high ceilings, exposed brick walls, and large architecturally-detailed windows. The project is being redeveloped within the state and federal historic preservation requirements. The project is being funded by Low Income Housing Tax Credit proceeds provided under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) administered by Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA); the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOME program, administered by Connecticut's Department of Economic and Community Development; the sale of federal historic preservation tax credits to the National Equity Fund; the sale of state historic tax credits to John Hancock; and a first mortgage being provided by CHFA.
