September 29, 2011 - Front Section
A former Roman Catholic church has been sold to a Protestant congregation.
The Diocese of Worcester says St. Casimir Church was sold to a Pentecostal church for $650,000. The sale includes the rectory, but not the parish school.
The sale proceeds will go to St. John Parish, the congregation that absorbed the membership of St. Casimir, which was closed in 2009 as part of the church's reorganization plan to deal with a shortage of priests and demographic changes.
St. Casimir for years the spiritual home of the city residents of Lithuanian descent.
Bishop Robert McManus says he's pleased the church will be used by another Christian community.
