Suffolk Const. completes Suffolk University residence hall conversion

February 08, 2008 - Front Section

10 West Street - Boston, MA

Suffolk Construction joined Mayor Thomas Menino, Suffolk University officials and members of the project team to celebrate the opening of Suffolk University's newest residence hall at 10 West St.
The grand opening came six short months after Suffolk's team began the renovation.
Suffolk's Education group was the ideal team to complete a project of this complexity and schedule. The team's ability to fast track the project allowed the university to accommodate 274 students in need of campus housing.
The residence hall occupies two buildings in Downtown Crossing that once housed condominiums. Suffolk's team connected the adjoining buildings and converted 73 units into four and six-bedroom student residences. The conversion involved construction of new floor plan layouts, MEP modifications and all new finishes.
Designed by CBT Architects, the seven-story, 90,000 s/f residence hall is targeted to achieve LEED Silver Certification through enhanced indoor environmental quality, innovative design techniques, and by utilizing recycled and renewable materials.
Suffolk University's residence hall is the latest project in the higher education sector. The team is underway on projects for Brown, Emerson College and Northeastern.
