The AISC hosts SteelDay events nationwide

November 20, 2014 - Connecticut
According to the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), structural steel is the leading structural framing material for buildings in the United States. The AISC hosted 150 SteelDay events nationwide on September 19 to recognize the contribution that the structural steel industry makes to the domestic economy, promote the use of structural steel, and demonstrate first-hand the work that takes place in steel fabrication shops and during the steel erection process on an active job site.
AISC's New England chapter held a SteelDay 2014 event in downtown that featured a presentation on the Summer House project located on lower Summer St. The 21-story apartment complex will incorporate 2,700 s/f of retail/restaurant space, 227 residential units and a fifth floor amenities space that includes a pool.
Presenters included representatives from the Summer House building team, including owner/developer F.D. Rich, construction manager Erland Construction, structural engineer Wexler & Associates, American Steel & Precast Erectors and Ocean Steel Corporation. Following the breakfast presentation, the more than 50 attendees walked over to the Summer House job site for a tour of the structural steel erection work in progress.
Steel and precast plank erection for Summer House began in July 2014 and is on schedule to be completed by the end of February 2015.
