TSKP STUDIO to design 12,000 s/f Hartford Public Library branch

Hartford, CT Hartford Public Library director, Bridget Quinn-Carey has embraced TSKP STUDIO’S design for the long-awaited Park St. branch.  The two-story, 12,000 s/f building offers adult and children’s library functions, community spaces and a protected outdoor courtyard.

Consistent with the firm’s interest in the sustainability of timber, the main library and community room portion will be built using exposed wood timber construction, which will result in a warm and inviting atmosphere for these public areas.

While the original plan involved restoring the existing façade of the Lyric Theater, extensive investigations and consultation with state historic officials, determined restoration could not be achieved. Therefore the existing building will be demolished with a few elements salvaged or recreated, and large photo murals of the original façade will be mounted within the new reading room.

Construction expected to begin this year.
